HEATING SPECIALISTS
FOR THE DOMESTIC AND COMMERCIAL MARKETS
The origins of Keston Boilers Ltd extend
back to 1928 when its original parent company was established
as a commercial and domestic heating installation and
servicing operation. Indeed, the long and established
history of installation and servicing provided Keston
with access to extensive resource from practical experience
on the best and worst aspects of the then current boiler
design.
Keston sold its first boiler in 1994 and
is now the larger of the two companies, having outgrown
its
parent considerably.
Originally entering the market with a core offering
of high-efficiency condensing boilers, the company has
grown
to design and manufacture hot water storage systems
and bespoke prefabricated rigs.
Keston took off in the domestic
sector with Keston 50, Keston 60 and Keston 80 boilers,
ranging from 14.65 to
23.45kW. After continued success in the domestic market,
the company entered into the light commercial sector
with Keston 170 (50kW), and in 1998, with Keston 130
(38.1kW). All models were designed and manufactured
for both natural and LP gas applications. Keston currently
enjoys the majority share of the LPG condensing boiler
market in which it competes.
By 1998, Keston offered
a full range of domestic and commercial boilers and
became a key player in the industry;
however, strong and continued competition boosted its
determination to keep ahead of the game and foresee
industry trends.
Keston has no standard-efficiency products,
only unique, optimum performance condensing units. Keston
is not a
'me too' company. The focus is on innovation and quality
rather than undercutting competitors.
Today, Keston uses
3 rd generation technology on all its products as part
of a boiler replacement rollout.
Units are all SEDBUK A-rated, maximum performance and
reliable heating systems, combined with ultra low NOx
combustion. This means minimal running costs and virtually
no atmospheric pollution - up to 30 per cent saving
on fuel bills. The company is certified to ISO: 9001.
Keston's
market split between domestic and commercial boilers
is virtually 50/50, trading solely through merchants.
In addition to these divisions, the company offers
a unique bespoke prefabricated service in the commercial
sector. The made-to-order solutions are usually supplied
within three weeks in an aim to reduce site time, and
therefore costs.
The commercial division is promoted
through merchants; listed by all five major national
concerns, among many
others. This route to market is somewhat uncommon,
but very effective. The choice of market infiltration
may
seem unorthodox to some, but the company's success
is unquestionably clear judging by its soaring sales
figures.
In line with regulation changes to Part
L, in force from April 1 2005, Keston has actively researched
installer
demands and competitor movements. Along with joining
SBGI, Keston sits on the SEDBUK panel, where it can
examine technical solutions for all applications. It
was also
a member of the working group set up by the Government
to establish to qualifying criteria for exemptions
to the April 2005 regulations. Using these advantages to
observe demand and supply trends and forecast future
industry developments, Keston recognised
the need to enter the combination boiler market.
The
launch of the C36 Combi in March 2005, a 36kW modulating
condensing boiler, is indicative of the company's
progress towards fully implementing 3 rd generation core
technology.
It features in-house developed and manufactured advanced
heat exchangers and burners, very unusual for modern
boiler producers.
The high performance C36 Combi, along
with other units in the condensing range, features
a unique flue and air
intake system which is simply standard 50mm muPVC kitchen
wastepipe available from plumbers merchants The flue
is therefore only approximately £1 per metre and
is widely available. Its flexibility means it can be
extended up to 60 metres, allowing for trouble-free positioning.
Installers can choose key installation locations to avoid
pluming.
In addition to the company's commitment
to ingenuity and efficiency, Keston offers a popular
training programme
for installers and service engineers.
