KESTON RIG TAKES THE BISCUIT AT PALMERS LODGE
Keston Boilers has supplied a custom-built, modular rig to provide energy efficient,
cost-effective heating and domestic hot water (DHW) at refurbished Palmers Lodge youth hostel,
a Victorian Grade II listed building in Swiss Cottage, London.
Keston won the contract for its ability to tailor its products to a customer’s
specific needs, which in this case included a modular rig incorporating four high performance C55
boilers that can either operate separately or simultaneously with a combined output of 220 kW.
As with all Keston boilers, the C55 is SEDBUK A-rated, ensuring peak operating efficiencies and
minimum running costs. It is up to 98 per cent efficient with virtually no NOx emissions.
Palmers Lodge, the 2007 winner of silver at the Visitlondon.com best hostels awards,
was built c.1880 for Samuel Palmer of Huntley Palmers Biscuits. It later became a children’s
hospital and then a nurses home before falling derelict in 1995. Substantial refurbishment by Harvestglen
Properties has restored the 20,000 square feet (1858 square metres), 50 room building to its former
glory, incorporating many original features in the new design.
Owner of Harvestglen, Frank Zahab, who specified Keston boilers for this installation
based on previous experience of the company’s high quality product range, commented: “After
installing some 15 Keston units in other properties, I knew that the company was one of the few boiler
manufacturers able to produce a modular rig design, which was exactly what I required to provide the
ideal heating solution at Palmers Lodge.”
Keston Rigs are delivered to site pre-assembled and pre-piped, and include an integral
weather compensation control. All rigs are built to order and Keston guarantees a quick turnaround,
from order to delivery.
