Nick Stevenson - Man
on the run
Ever seen a managing director sweat? We're not talking about month-end when it's time to pay the invoices... No, we're talking real sweat. Nick Stevenson, managing director of Keston Boilers, pushed the boundaries when he ran 26.2 miles through 15 neighbourhoods across a scenic city to complete the 2005 Chicago Marathon.
Nick flew to Chicago for the October 9 marathon and ran the full distance in an amazing four hours, nine minutes. By crossing the finish line, he managed to raise a fantastic £1,500 for CHASE Hospice Care for Children.
"The selected charity is one close to my heart and I would like to thank everyone who sponsored me. I never imagined I would raise as much as I have," said Nick. "Completing the Chicago Marathon was really tough going, but sobering as well, knowing it is for such a terrific cause. The enthusiasm of the American crowds certainly helped"
Now a three-time marathon runner, who's favourite event was the London Marathon, Nick may still be feeling the aches and pains but hasn't ruled out more marathons in 2006. He continued: "During the race I vowed 'never again!' but if I can raise more sponsorship - who knows?"
